Pet Peeves!

(Started writing this while on my break at work...)

Pet peeves. I sit here typing this after realizing that the place we ordered lunch subs from an HOUR AND A HALF AGO got my order wrong. Yup, got it wrong. Really? How hard is it to NOT put mayo in a sandwich and add the quintessential toppings to a vegetarian sub? (Alfalfa sprouts and lettuce anyone?) Either way, it seems like no matter where I go or what I do someone always gets my order wrong at least once every 3 times I order something.

Speaking of life annoyances, it seems that no matter how small said frustrations can be, they always seem to find the utmost way under our skin making us want to pull our hair and go strangle someone. Like seriously? Why must people feel the need to smack their food, interrupt another person when they are talking, or text back just "K" when you just wrote them a paragraph. I guess in this case I will use the much overused but very appropriate, "It is, what it is" saying. I have come to the point of my life where I have realized that some of these annoyances are indeed things we will have to live with (unless people decide to have some common sense)

& with that I went around (and texted) a few of my friends asking what their Top 2 annoyances/pet peeves were, and here are the answers. (Surprisingly, no one else said Getting food orders wrong so maybe I am in the minority on that one.)

1. People who smack their food or gum.

Who you honestly just want to smack back. Seriously people, have we learned nothing on how to eat our food with our mouths CLOSED?

2. People who cut you off on the road.

Too bad people cant be given a ticket for this. But then again I see people running red lights and without a ticket on record.

3. Rude people

This shall includes half of the world's population.

5. Invasion of personal space

I love the quote Isaac said regarding this; "I didn't know I had a "bubble" until someone stepped in it.

4. Wrong use of "their, there, and they're"

Making these t shirts a hot seller.

5. The lack of eye contact

We get it, you're a shy person, but can you at least look at me when I am talking?

& although I can imagine MANY more, I will leave you with this. No matter how much these things may bother you (and they will keep bothering you, trust me) We can just remember, that at least (or so I hope) we are not the people who are on the other end instigating these pet peeves and making those around us cringe relentlessly.

Smart Snacking

We all have those times. The times where everything seems to be going fine and then BAM, a sudden snack attack hits. Your sugar levels are down to the floor and those candy bars in the hallway vending machine start to look pretty amazing. Well let me tell you that those "pitfalls" can lead you to a danger zone if you don't take control of them. With just a little planning ahead and awesome ideas from Lauren C. you can turn those afternoon snack attacks into healthy choices that will help you stay on track.

My personal favorite? Hummus and fresh cut vegetables. Yum :) Happy Snacking!

Apartment Life #1

Living in an apartment has taught me very valuable "apt. life lessons".

1. Don't sing to loud in the shower, as paper thin walls often make it easy for your neighbors to hear you.

2. When management says they will fix that broken hinge on your bathroom cabinet door tomorrow, they actually mean sometime before the end of the month.

3. When it's 1 am and you hear a loud thunderous noise above you stay calm. No, it is not a stampede of gazelles running by, it's just your neighbors.

and the most annoying lesson of them;

& by this I mean, No major nail marks, wallpaper or stickers, & absolutely NO PAINTING on the wall.

Everytime I see an awesome bedroom design with painted walls or wallpaper I sigh in despair knowing that I will never be able to stroke a paintbrush on my apartment walls. However, the sigh of despair quickly turns into a glimmer of hope when I discover ideas such as the ones below. It's an awesome alternative to using any kind wallpaper and is perfect for people who aren't really all that into painting. It is a really easy DIY project that requires minimal effort.

In Honor of Love

So i am not going to lie, I am not a big fan of Valentine's day. I am one of those cynics out there who believe it is a holiday invented by silly chocolate box producing companies, wanting frazzled spouses and boyfriends running around trying to find something decent to gift. Personally, I believe it is completely irrational to wait till one single day (where people seem to think gifting stuffed animal bears to a grown woman is socially acceptable) to express your love towards one another. All in all, you can say I beleive in loving one another every day and would much rather receive flowers on a random April Tuesday. :) However, despite all of this, I shall dedicate this post to those of you who cant help but giggle at the sight of cheesy valentines day cards or those of you who think it would be a crime not to gift on Vday. <3

What to do?

A Picnic
is by far my favorite thing to do on ANY day. Here are a few ideas on what to take on your picnic; "easy to eat" items that wont require cutlery (such as fresh salads, fresh organic fruit & vegetables, crackers, etc.) drinks, books, a camera, and of course a blanket and a few small pillows.

Discover the Nature in your City
If you live in a big city there might be a good chance that you aren't really exposed to true nature on an everyday basis (the bush outside your house doesn't count). With this being said, dedicate the day to visit the areas around or outside your city and spend quality time getting away from the everyday hustle and bustle. Research a national park, lake, view, mountain, or beach in which you can easily head to for the day. Explore, hike, and enjoy the beauty of mother nature!

Sunrise Sunshine

How often do you enjoy a sunrise together?! Wake up early and find a beautiful lookout to enjoy a sunrise. Stop by a bakery or a nice diner/restaurant on the way back and enjoy a nice breakfast fresh in the morning

Movie & Dinner
Go to your local farmers market or grocery store and pick up some fresh ingredients for a dinner that you both can make that night. Set out a candlelight dinner, grab some fancy drinks (or wine if you; Rent a favorite movie, romantic or not and cuddle up. If fancy is not your style, order your favorite take out and eat while watching a new release or reruns of your favorite shows.

What to gift?

Disclaimer; By no means, at all, whatsoever, no matter how cute or easy, simple, or normal it may seem give your significant other a stuffed animal shall you do it. With that being said, I do have the first few stuffed animals that Isaac gave me the first year of our relationship which sit nicely on my bed, so not all is bad. However, when said items keep being gifted to us, we usually end up not knowing where to place them and find ourselves stuffing them in either boxes, giving them away, (like salivating puppies ready to gnaw the heck out of something) **
Flowers are a timeless beautiful gift in which most people appreciate in receiving no matter the occasion. While I think red roses are a bit overrated, a beautiful bouquet filled with blooming gerberas, daisies, colorful roses, tulips, sunflowers, etc is sure to make someone smitten.

Gift Cards
Although many people might think that the gift cards are less thoughtful than other present, I think that in most instances it is a perfect gift. Whoever is receiving the gift card can go to the store and pick whatever she desires or use it towards a bigger purchase she might have in mind. Good stores to get gift cards to are home good store (such as Pier1) makeup and beauty (Ulta, Sephora, heaven!) and clothing stores (depending on her style)

Something Homemade
My favorite of all the ones mentioned. Nothing can beat the thoughtfulness of a gift that you create yourself. Develop a few pictures of the 2 and make a mini scrapbook recounting the memories you both have. Decorate with scrapbook stickers, different colored paper, and letters. Or make her a mix CD with silly cheesy favorite & romantic love songs, design the cover for it and write a little insert with a few words on each song describing why you picked it.

So no matter what you do, what you give or get; the most important thing is that you spend the day with the one you love. && remember, Valentine's Day shouldn't be the only day you splurge on your significant other! Love should be expressed everyday in every way :)
