How To Look Fab in Less than 10





Aaahh! So you wake up frantic, your clock reads 7:55 am and you're supposed to be at work by 8 o'clock. What does your instinct tell you? "Grab the first thing you see, put your hair in a messy ponytail, and forget about your makeup, cause girl you aint got time!" Am I right? Well at least that's what MY instinct tells me. However, I learned (with time and by reading blogs) that you don't have have to appear as if you woke up in a fright. Here are a couple of the tips;

HAIR
*Took these pictures at work, during a break, so don't mind any random items in the back*


1. Twirl a front section (or your bangs) and secure with a bobby pin to the side of your head.







2.) Twirl all of your hair and coil it to the side of your head, fastening it with a couple of bobby pins or an elastic.



3. Wait a bit; During this time you can apply your makeup (see below) or can be driving to work. This is in total should have taken you less than 2 minutes


4. Now once you have let your hair "curl" for a bit, undo the side bun (adjusting the twirled front section to your liking) which should leave you with slightly curled ends for a more polished look.




At this point you could leave your hair like this, which would look similar to Ms. Garner's hair below (I completely forgot to take a picture of my WHOLE hair) but a little less textured.



BUT if you don't want hair in your face (let's say it's raining or a windy day) you could keep going onto step 5.

5. Go ahead and tease your hair lightly at the crown with your fingers, and grab all of your hair into a ponytail. Once it is in a ponytail, secure with an elastic and grab a piece from underneath your ponytail and wrap it around the elastic (to hide it). Secure with either a bobby pin, or by securing it into the elastic.




Makeup


Who masters the neutral-im not trying-pretty -chic make up look for me?
Whitney Port, hands down. The picture above is what you're going for.
(Maybe a little less blush LOL)

Forget about your smokey eye or any heavy lipstick; you won't find any of that here. Here is my 4 minute (or somewhere around there) routine that helps me when I'm on the run.


1. Put on a light moisturizer to prep your face: No matter how much you might want to skip this step, dont. Applying a moisturizer will revive your skin, making you look fresh and awake. Let it sit for about 30 seconds (I would usually say let it soak into your skin for 3 min but given the circumstances...) Lately, I've been using NouriFusion for Herbalife Normal to Oily Moisturizer. Clinique Acne Solutions Moisturizer is also a great one.
45 seconds


2. Put on a bit of tinted moisturizer or foundation: Make sure you blend adequately and set it lightly with a powder. I like Covergirl's NatureLuxe Foundation since its pretty lightweight (which smells good, might be the cucumber) or MaryKay's Tinted Moisturizer. Don't forget to set with a pressed powder. I like Dream Matte Powder by Maybelline or MaryKay's Loose Powder.
1 minute

3. Blush: Choose a peachy pink color or a light rose & apply to the apples of your cheeks. My favorite all time blush is by Bare Minerals in the color Poppy.
15 seconds




4. Eyes: Apply a base for your eyeshadow such as Mac's paint pot in Soft Ocher or Groundwork (my fave) Apply a taupe or brown eyeshadow to the your lids using a flat shadow brush. (You can find really good quality neutral palettes with NYX, Milani, or ULTA brands) Finally apply a a line of liquid eyeliner on your top lashes, and add mascara! My favorite mascara at the moment is Loreal's Voluminous in Carbon Black.

5. Last but not least; exfoliate your lips quickly by brushing a toothbrush (or with a lip scrub) over your lips for a few seconds to get rid of any dead skin and nastiness. Apply a lip balm: I like C.O Bigelow's Rose Salve or Burt's Bees Mango Butter Lip Balm. None leave too much color, just a nice sheen. & since the exfoliation you did earlier circulated the blood in your lips, there really isin't a need for too much color, since your lips will already have a natural one!

Total: 4 minutes & 20 seconds (give or take)



Clothes


I have only 1 tip when it comes to picking out clothes when running late:

1. Always have an Emergency (neutral) outfit hanging ready in your closet.
What I mean by this is to find a flattering shirt or blouse and a pair of nice fitting slacks or jeans, or a flowy dress layered with a cardigan; pieces that are in simple patterns and neutral colors; Have them washed and ironed, so they are ready to be worn & keep the outfit hanging in your closet at all times, so when it so happens that you wake up late, you won't even have to worry about what to wear.

My go to choice?

a cardigan, slacks or jeans, and a tank top.

All Aboard... The Pesto Train!




Being an "occasional" vegetarian, (as in I sometimes indulge in chicken or fish) often leads me to always be on the lookout for easy meat free recipes. On a recent trip to Fresh and Easy (which i love!) I saw they had premade tomato & mozzarella pasta with pesto which looked amazing! However, I remembered that one of pesto's major ingredients is Parmesan cheese. && me being the picky eater that I am, cannot stand Parmesan cheese. & as you can tell by the picture above I decided to take a chance & make it on my own. I pulled out my iPhone && looked up a recipe, then grabbed any ingredients that I didn't have, and went home. To my surprised my pasta came out pretty amazing. Not bragging of course LOL, but I truly was proud of myself and the final outcome. As usual, I tweak recipes to my liking and to satisfy my needs, so this recipe may not be the traditional one that is often used. Either way, I simply could not keep something so awesome to myself, so below is my recipe for super easy, vegetarian, pesto-ey, tomato & mozzarella pasta goodness! (:





To Make the Pesto:


1. Take [a handful of the spinach (right hand side), a few leaves of basil (left hand side; i put in less than what is shown), juice of 1/2 a lemon, chopped onions (add as much as you desire, depends on how strong you want the onion to taste. I personally love onions so i added about a quarter of a large one), a clove of garlic (more or less), 2 tablespoons of olive oil, salt & pepper.] and place it all in your food processor, magic bullet, or whatever knock-off you have.


2. Blend it for about 20-30 seconds, depending on how chunky you want it.


3. Transfer the pesto in a container and then place in the refrigerator, so it can cool.


**Personally, I don't measure much. I like to gauge how much of each ingredient I put and taste as I go.





4. Go ahead & boil the pasta (I usually do this before doing the pesto) till it gets 'al dente'. I like to also add in half an onion, salt & pepper to to the boiling water out of habit. (I always saw Mom do it, so why not follow up with the tradition?) (:


5. Once the pasta is all done, drain, and run it under cold water. Place it in a bowl.


6. Go ahead and add a few tablespoons of pesto at a time, tasting after every spoonful you add. Pesto can be very strong, so you dont want to overpower by adding too much.


7. Add a bit of olive oil, S&P, your cherry tomatoes, and pearl mozzeralla (which you can find in most local grocery stores near the cheese section), and you're done! Plate nicely with some basil leaves and some pesto sauce on the side (see below)






See how easy that was?! Delicious, refreshing, and easy! So you ask yourself now, what do I do with any leftover ingredients?! Here are a couple of ideas;


Pesto Bread!: yup, just as the name states. Just add some pesto dressing on top of freshly baked french bread or baguettes and you got yourself a winner for amazing appetizers at your next get together.




Caprese Sandwich; This is by far one of my favorites. Take your extra tomatoes, mozzarella, and pesto, add a few alfalfa sprouts, place it on artisan bread or regular whole wheat, toast && you got one rad sandwich. Toasting it will melt the cheese, while giving the bread that hearty crunch.


White Bean Pesto Dip; Almost like hummus, but not quite. Take a can of white cannelini beans, 2-3 tablespoons of pesto (depends on how strong of a pesto taste you like), 1 tablespoon of olive oil, a squeeze of a lemon, and some salt. Pulse 1/2 clove of garlic (if any) first then add the rest of ingredients and blend until smooth (or blend less for chunkier dip). Place in bowl and serve.



So there you have it. Some easy vegetarian recipes that will leave you pesto-fied. <-- not much of an appealing word. Hope you enjoyed, and if you try any of these, tell me about your experience in the comments (: I would love to hear how your experience goes!

Not Selfish, Just Focused


So it's 3:44 in the morning and i am still awake... seriously, why must i be a night owl? my mind runs endlessly with ideas and thoughts as everyone around me is fast asleep. I dont get it. Yet again, I am also paranoid that if i go to sleep now, i wont wake up for work in the morning. Good thing that my commute to work has been cut by nearly 30 minutes, 16 miles, and to only 2 freeways. ( yeay!) Either way, I need to get my body on a set sleep schedule, cause all this night activity can't possibly be good. So as I was perusing the internet i found this awesome recipe for "doughless" pizza that I can't wait to try..
.
So no matter how much you HATE vegetables...its hard to deny that this looks pretty awesome. Am i right? (: & guess what? There is not one ounce of doughy substance in there... at all! The crust is made entirely out of cauliflower. I swear, once i get the chance... I'm making this baby for dinner. Once I do so, i'll post up the recipe and let you know how it goes!



Other Things on My Mind...


NYC (:


Of course...how this possibly NOT be on my list. This amazing city that ponders my dreams just seems to be working overtime on me. It's like it knows I yearn for it and plots to purposely appear in my daily life. I know however, that one day ill step on its streets :) Just waiting to get some things straight (like get my car) and then ill be jet setting to the big apple!


Christmas Music!


This just get me in that Christmas spirit. If i didnt spend hours at night listening to it at night, i probably wouldnt feel that christmas feeling. My favorite song ever (as cheesy as it might sound) is Jump5's "Sleigh Ride" cover. Its so cheery & hip <-- for lack of a better word lol. I just put on Pandora (to who my infinite gratitude goes to!) and let my holiday music live on!


Zumba!


You can't go wrong with burning calories while dancing up a storm and having fun! I made a commitment with myself to go classes at least 3 times a week, and ive stuck to it for 2 weeks (: I swear, im addicted. The music and the dance moves are pretty sweet. An hour of this combined with my Herbalife protein shake is amazing! If someone near you is offering classes, I suggest you take try it asap!

Boy Meets World Reruns


...and last but not least. My life (since a little before Thanksgiving break) has been consisting of "Boy Meets World" reruns that i so casually found on Youtube. I mean seriously... i forgot how FREAKING AMAZING this show is .. especially Will Friedle. This show defined my childhood. (or at least part of it) and has taken up most of my data usage on my iPhone. I can't get enough of it .. especially that catchy intro song they started using in Season 5. If there is any other group of people I wanna hang out with...its them (:



Alright, so i guess this concludes my late night, early morning, what are you thinking still being up, blog post. It sucks, cause now i am actually sleepy... so i think ill go to sleep for a few hours.. or a couple... and just rest in the afternoon since i foresee a half day of work tomorrow. I am not going to lie.. feels nice to update this thang. I bet it was feeling a little neglected this blog was .. but as we move along.. cause my eyelids are dropping...oh yeah, & remember...

Nutella Hot Chocolate Recipe!




So as the weather gets colder and jackets & sweaters start making their debut, only one thing comes to mind:

HOT CHOCOLATE SEASON! (:

I don't drink too many hot beverages during June or July, simply because its already 110 degrees outside..so why would I want to add to that? However, once Halloween weekend starts rolling around I'm all over cute mugs filled with warm hearty awesomeness. Whether it be tea, coffee, or hot chocolate; curling up with a mug of any that I mentioned above to read a book, or watch an episode of "The Mentalist" is what the colder season is all about! (:

Below is a recipe I use for Homemade Nutella Hot Chocolate. Simple and easy!


For 1 serving you will need: (if you want to do more than 1 serving; just add another portion of the ingredient asked. ie; 3 servings will need 3 cups of milk, etc.)


-Milk (1 cup: any kind will work; if you are vegetarian/vegan I find Almond milk works best)


-Nutella (1 1/2 to 2 tablespoons for your average sweetness; more or less depending if you like it sweet or not)


-Ground Cinnamon (a pinch)


-A stove and saucepan


-Whipped Cream & Cinnamon Stick/s for added pizazz!



Step 1:

Go ahead and place the milk in the saucepan on low heat and still until warm. Then add the 2 tablespoons of Nutella and stir.



Step 2:

Once the Nutella has melted into the milk; go ahead and stir in a pinch of cinnamon (: Keep stirring for another 30 seconds to a minute (don't overheat or the milk will burn!)

Step 3:

Pour into a mug and garnish with whipped cream and a cinnamon stick!



And there you have it! Quick and simple homemade Nutella chocolate (:

This goes great with pastries, cookies, or simply on its own on that chilly night where you want to just curl up with a cup of hot chocolatey hazelnut goodness!

i cant say that im a great photographer, but i like to think of myself as okay.
Okay enough to get me by snapping shots of Downtown Las Vegas while driving.

Annnddd since i was driving, i couldnt take photos of EVERYTHING that i wanted to.

Im thinking of maybe spending a a day or night where i just go around taking pictures...
i know Isaac wont like the idea of walking around and visiting random places, so i think i might go solo on this one, but either way, i think it will be cool (:

Gosh, i just realized its Thursday! Woohoo!

I always try to remind myself that its not always about the weekend, and that you have to seize every single day. Cause in all honesty every single day is another day to enjoy life, and all it has to offer. I'm slowly understanding the concept of just going for it.

Really....

Confined to My Own Thoughts



This is my "sitting in a white walled room, hungry, yet determined to write a blog post" face

So im sitting in what the library calls a typing room yet looks more like a jail cell, listening to the "Justin Nozuka" Pandora station. Its currently playing some Jason Mraz...who is amazing :)
Anyways back to my confinement story, Apparently all of their laptop plug in thingys are all used up, so the kind librarian man (or would it just be librarian? isint that what you call lady librarians?) told me i could use one of their "private typing rooms" for an hour. I thought to myself, "ooohh! private typing room! sounds fancy and special!" Wrong. He walks me to the waaaay back, and points to 1 one of the 4 rooms thats lined up neatly against the wall.. Looks like a room that you would put someone for being too loud in the extra quiet reading area, or for racking up too many fines.

so much for that rule. All this room has is a trashcan, 2 semi comfortable chairs, and a table size ledge to put your materials....

see...i wasnt kidding.

So anyways as we move right along...
**I got distracted with the internet, phonecalls, and email lol my time was up in the little library cell, so i moved on up to the outside patio..**

Its nice outside :) weather is perfect. This patio is nice! the only thing i would change is the big window that leads to the help desk, in which case they can see my every move. I would also take a picture but i dont want them to think im weird. Yet again, i blog about nothing so thats pretty weird in itself. There is a man sitting on one of the benches reading what seems to be a nice thick fiction novel. i hope my typing dosent bother him. I can hear the cars pass by although i cant see them. All in all, i like the library (:
Well anyways... what can i talk about?

Should i ramble on about my love/hate relationship with this week's rain? and how it made me realize i have crappy windshield wipers, causing me to BARELY see where im going while driving on the I-15 going to work? (which by the way is like 22 miles away...bleh)

or should i confess how completely in love i am with Landon Austin from YouTube? This guy can SING! i love how his voice isint the typical pretty voice, and it kinda reminds me of the lead singer from The Fray.. raspy yet smooth (:
OR should i just talk about how rough this past month has been for me.
Let me scratch that..
how tough the past few MONTHS have been for me... honestly if you know me well, you know that if im going through it, i kinda just isolate myself (non intentionally of course)from everything, and sulk into my problems. Not good, i know. However, i cant help it. Its how i cope with things. So if youre wondering, why i havent called you, messaged you, or havent stopped by.. its not you.. its this crazy life and all that comes with it. But no worries, its just a phase, and ill get right out of it (:

Caffeee Shop (:

So im sitting in my new favorite place in the whole wide world...

Madhouse Coffee Shop.

So you ask yourself what makes this coffeehouse better than the rest? Well... it has pretty good coffee first of all (although not better than The Human Bean of course), awesome snacks, seating is pretty good, free wifi (well kinda... you sorta have to buy something in order for it to be free lol), and better than anything, ITS 24 HOURS! (: reason why i can be sitting here at 1:08 in the morning. Isaac is not a fan of these places, but HE was actually the one with the idea to come over here for a bit. The idea was ideal, since there is currently NO internet at mi casa. NONE, zilp, zero, nada. La mama forgot to pay the bill, so that means no service. Thats how the world works... you exchange something for something (unless you get lucky, and they just give it to you) and in this case the exchange would be $$ moolah $$ for internet service. No moolah no internet.. capeesh? Im starting to quickly fall in love with this place. Like young love once again <3 except this time, its not with some immature 14 year old, but with a wonderful calm awesome coffee house. I feel inspired here. Feel calm and collected. Where i can sit and think, and type.

So as i sit here and think of life... some things come to mind... but before that;


This couple, study buddies, or bro/sis are too cute. they are like to peas in a pod lol

and while they look cute heres what me and isaac do...





Currently as i type this he is most likely half asleep/half not awake.
I find it funny how everytime someone walks in... He acts "awake" (:

Well anyways...where were we? Oh yeah....Life.

Gosh...such a complicated word.

The word that many want to live, yet dont know how. The word many people fear is going by them too fast. The word that many have just begun, and others have finished saying. Many say its short, others long. Many keep it busy while others act casual towards it. Many feel they made a difference, while others say they stayed in their own selfish ways. Many look for its meaning, and while Websters' Dictionary has 19..I think no one will ever truly know the real definition of it.

So what does life mean to you? Is it a passion that you live for? A religion? A form of God?
Is it just something you live day by day? Carpe diem? Or something that you plan for? Does life mean having a significant other by your side? or simply having a good friend to live it with? Is it family, loved ones? or is it fame money and fortune that you strive for?

Whatever it means to you, pursue it. If it makes you happy, go for it.
The only one who can make it happen is you (:

So i leave you with that.... as Isaac gets impatient for a cozy bed and a tv. and i await a nice long ride back home :)

I guess I dont look too shabby in the middle of the night with no makeup and creepy computer lighting

So i am still awake... i dont understand why i tend to be a night person. I work my best when the sun is outta my way and half the population is sleeping.. Well at least half the (residential) population that isint on vacation. well i have sorta kinda have neglected this blog and felt the need to update....since my last post was nearly 3 months ago. Funny how i discovered them; I usually download any free stuff that on iTunes, they had some FTP on there [the song, "Helena Beat"] i listened to it, and loved it...
Then i heard Pumped Up Kicks on the radio and instantly recognized their voice, & style...
Give them a try they are pretty awesome. Their style is different, yet easy to listen.

Their latest album "Torches" I beleive they are currently on tour, so find a show near you. I am so going to the one at the Boulevard Pool! Only $28 a ticket!

So this guy has been out on the realms for a while now.. his song "i love college" became an instant hit everywhere on the radio. He is not your typical up and coming rapper that is always talking about money fame and fortune. He has his few "typical rapper" moments but a lot of his songs have meaning behind him, and his beats are beyond sick. If your tired of some of the rap of today, check him out :) **warning; some of his songs are a little explicit**
